Pierce County Jails

Pierce County Correctional Facility is the single adult detention center in Pierce County. It is operating in two separate buildings referred to as; the main jail and a the new jail.  For your convenience, we have provided the most frequently resourced information and the addresses and directions for each building.

Visitation of an inmate can be a difficult process and being prepared with the many details required of the visitors can ease the process. Please note all requirements thoroughly before scheduling a visit. This can prevent a cancellation or loss of visit. We have also provided a direct link to Pierce County Corrections for more detailed information on other inmate programs and services.

Take I-5 to Exit 133 towards City Center, then merge onto I-705. Take the 'A ' St. exit on the right towards City Center. Turn left onto South 9th Street. The Main jail is on the corner of S. 9th and Tacoma Avenue.

Take I-5 to Exit 133 towards City Center, then merge onto I-705. Take the 'A ' St. exit on the right towards City Center. Turn left onto South 11th Street. Drive up the hill until you reach Yakima Avenue. Turn right on Yakima Avenue. The New Jail will be 1/2 block ahead, on the corner of Nollmeyer Lane and Yakima Avenue.

Details for the inmate visitation hours are determined upon inmate location per building and unit. 

Guidelines:

Please note: Inmates are responsible for scheduling their own visitation and informing visitor(s) about their current visiting schedule, including changes to the schedule, cancellations or rescheduled visits. Inmates will be able to schedule their visits up to seven days in advance and must provide a complete name and date of birth for each person visiting.

All visitors must not have any active warrants or no-contact orders. Visitors 18 years or older and must appear with valid picture identification. Acceptable forms of identification are: Valid driver's license, state identification or other official identification with picture, physical description and signature. Visitors 17 years or younger must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent or documented legal guardian. A maximum of two children will be allowed to visit with one adult. If there are two adults, only one child may accompany them. No more than two adults may visit at one time.

Visitation is scheduled in 60-minute sessions. Visitor sign up begins 45 minutes prior to the visit and ends 15 minutes before the visit begins. Any visitor arriving at the facility late or without a visiting appointment will be cancelled. The same visitor may not visit the same inmate more than once per day.

Visiting appointments may be cancelled by the inmate up to 24 hours in advance of the scheduled visit. Cancellations less than 24 hours in advance of a scheduled visit will be counted as a visit.
